Brits warned not to cut travel insurance

Around a quarter of Britons are planning on cutting back on their travel insurance, according to a new study.

Research by American Express found that that 24 per cent of holidaymakers are considering going abroad without any travel insurance.

Chris Rolland, head of American Express insurance services, warned that while cutting travel insurance can save money in the short term, if things go wrong people will be left with a hefty bill.

"This may well be a false economy as people could end up paying out much more than they bargained for if something should happen," the travel insurance expert said.

Travel insurance helps people enjoy their holiday safe in the knowledge that they are protected if things do go wrong, he added.

Recently, a study by Liverpool Victoria found that more than five million people are considering cutting back on some form of insurance over the next 12 months in order to reduce their outgoings.
