Business banking launched by Santander

Alliance and Leicester and Abbey are to merge into one corporation today (July 1st), with the new brand Santander hoping to perform well within the world of business banking .

The firm now aims to provide a "compelling" business banking service by using the knowledge of the field from experienced teams from Alliance and Leicester and Abbey.

Focusing on customer service and cautious commercial risks, business banking clients with Santander, such as small and medium enterprises, will be helped to take their place in the global economy, according to the company.

Steve Pateman, head of Santander Corporate Banking, said: "We are committed to building strong relationships based on an understanding of the business and its needs, providing them with solutions and services that fit those needs."

Alliance and Leicester recently unveiled its Free Business Current Account product, which offers interest of six per cent AER to small companies with a turnover of more than £1 million.
