The majority of people would make use of a national information service for matters relating to personal loans, credit cards and mortgages, it has been claimed.
According to the results of the Thoresen Review 75 per cent of people survey said they would use a national information and guidance service for personal finance issues if one was available.
Commenting on the findings and his report in general Mr Thorensen said: "My report sets out how a national money guidance service could transform people's lives as well as bringing substantial benefits to the industry and government."
He added that his report set out how the government could implement a scheme that offered guidance on credit cards, mortgages, personal loans and other financial products.
Speaking about Mr Thorensen's report a spokesperson for insurance firm Axa said that it is an important first step in helping people in the UK to get their finances in order.
