Britons lack home insurance, survey shows

A quarter of Britons lack a vital form of home insurance cover, it has been claimed.

In a survey, Confused.com found that 25 per cent of people do not have home contents insurance .

Debra Williams, managing director of the firm, explained that anyone who did not have that form of home insurance could face a large bill if they had to replace goods that were stolen or damaged.

She said: "Contents insurance is not a legal requirement, but should really be considered an absolute necessity. Many people decide against contents cover without considering the potential pitfalls involved."

Ms Williams added that not only could people be left out of pocket if the worst happened and they did not have home insurance in place, but they will also face "emotional turmoil".

On Monday, a survey by Sainsbury's Bank found that 1.12 million people admitted to giving false information when applying for insurance .
