Perfect time to clear debt, says expert

Now is the time to sort out your finances and clear your debt, one expert says.

Donald MacLeod, head of cards at Sainsbury's Bank, said that now Christmas was over, it was the perfect time for people to look at the money situation.

He said: "Your credit card bill will be coming in now, appraise where you are and see if there's a better way of handling that debt."

Mr MacLeod suggested that people might want to consider a personal loan or a zero per cent balance transfer on to another credit card .

He added that there are "a lot of great deals" available around now and that people should be able to get a deal that suits them.

Research from uSwitch recently revealed that the average UK household could save around £605 in three years by consolidation all their unsecured debts - such as credit cards and personal loans - in to one consolidation loan .
