Customers of the bank can now sign up to its text alerts service, enabling them to receive messages when their current account balances reach a certain level.
They will also be able to access up-to-the-minute balances and mini statements while they are on the go.
According to the bank, it launched this scheme following research which suggested a quarter of UK adults pay little attention to budgeting and feel they do not have time to check their finances regularly enough.
Ian Tandy, director of e-commerce at Alliance and Leicester said: "Today's modern lifestyle is fast-paced, and it seems that no-one goes anywhere or does anything without their mobile phone .
