Emerging markets ripe for investment

Thu, 17 Apr 2008

The outlook for investments in emerging markets is very good, one expert has claimed.

Jeff Chowdhry, head of emerging equities at F&C, explained that the markets are now the drivers of global economic growth and that this means that investments in such countries should prosper.

He said: "Our estimates tell us that two thirds of this year's global growth will be directly attributable to emerging markets which means the investment story in the region is still very compelling."

Mr Chowdhry added that while the emerging economies have experienced the same economic downturn as the rest of the world so far this year, this is a situation that he will not last.

Investments in emerging markets will soon outperform those in developed ones, he concluded.

However, earlier this week, Ralph Brook-Fox investment manager for Resolution Asset Management suggested that blue-chip investments will offer the best returns in coming months.
