Halifax: Annual travel insurance popular for short breaks

Tue, 18 Sep 2007

Holidaymakers are taking out annual travel insurance premiums as they take shorter breaks more often throughout the year, Halifax Travel Insurance has said.

The company has stated that annual premiums are becoming more popular due to the number of cheap flights available to foreign destinations, making the concept of a weekend city break more affordable.

Spokesperson for Halifax Travel Insurance David Bruce commented that less people are taking just one long break during the summer months.

"More and more people are taking more than the traditional one summer holiday a year so it makes more sense to have annual cover," he remarked.

Mr Bruce added that if holidaymakers are to make a claim about an incident that happens while they are away they must ensure they get a valid crime number.

He reminded holidaymakers that without a crime number a travel insurance claim cannot be validated.

According to the Association of British Insurers typical travel insurance policies should protect the holder from a number of adverse events such as medical emergencies, trip cancellations, loss, damage and theft and compensation for disability suffered while away or even death.
