Charitable wing of financial services provider invites worthy cause suggestions

The Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is inviting banking customers to nominate charities to receive a no-strings-attached grant.

Each year, the financial services provider's charity offers £50 to small and medium-sized non-profit organisations in a bid to help good causes across the UK.

Created in 1999, the foundation has so far given out £2.2 million to more than 4,000 charities.

And it is preparing to add to this total after counting up the votes received between June 15th and June 23rd 2007, which has been designated Make a Difference Week by the organisation.

Commenting, Louise Neil of the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation said: "Make a Difference Week offers the society the chance to support smaller local charities that are often overlooked by large organisations but are important."

Earlier this year, financial services provider Barclaycard, a division of banking institution Barclays, launched a new credit card and pledged to divert some of its profits to good causes.

Specifically, the company has pledged to donate half of profits from the Breathe credit card to organisations that are dedicated to reducing global carbon emissions.
