Nationwide Building Society has revealed details of a new scheme that it is hoped will improve banking access for people in the south-west of England.
Following discussions with the council, the financial services provider has committed to supplying a host of free cash machines in low-income areas around Bristol and Weston-super-Mare.
The automated teller machines (ATMs) will be installed in public areas such as community centres, libraries and shops, with the intention of maximising access to facilities such as withdrawing cash.
To identify the most needy areas, governmental body the British Financial Inclusion Taskforce is opening a public consultation session.
Commenting on the partnership, Jeremy Wood, director of the financial services provider, said: "We have long campaigned for real action to protect the free cash machine network and this innovative partnership is a great opportunity.
"This is a significant step forward in ensuring people can access their cash for free."
In addition to ATMs, Nationwide Building Society offers a range of other banking facilities such as credit cards, personal loans, mortgages and savings.
