With more than 76,000 households in the UK becoming the victims of burglary between October and December last year, one firm is urging people not to disregard the need for insurance cover .
According to Bradford and Bingley, people are expected to spend approximately £385 on presents, meaning they could make a substantial financial loss if they are targeted by criminals.
Dave Foyle, head of general insurance at the firm, said: "With so much money and effort invested in the Christmas period, people should make sure that they don't overlook the necessity of protecting their home and its contents from unwanted visitors."
People can ensure that their possessions are protected by taking out adequate home insurance cover, he added.
Earlier this month, Sainsbury's Bank revealed that approximately 21.9 million people in the UK have chosen not to buy at least one insurance product, with 13 per cent citing the cost as the main factor.
