Confidence in the business world in on the increase, with four in 10 businesses now feeling more optimistic about future economic prospects.

That is according to Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank, which found that feelings about how the economy will do over the next three months is on the rise.

Nearly half of all businesses (49 per cent) expect economic prospects to remain the same over the next quarter, whilst just 11 per cent of businesses say they are less confident about the future.

"UK businesses are the lifeblood of the economy so these results are good news, not only for business, but for the economy in general," commented the senior product manager at Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank, Alex Smith.

"At a time when a general election is anticipated and there is uncertainty over interest rate rises, it is encouraging to see so many businesses planning growth."

In the survey, almost eight out of 10 businesses said they had experienced business performance either in line with their expectations (49 per cent) or better than expected (28 per cent) over the last three months.

Furthermore, all the companies involved in the survey said they planned to invest in their business over the coming three months.
